There are several (make that many) models of the UV-17. Unfortunately, some vendors are selling what looks like one model, but is actually something else. Here's a quick way to determine whether you have the UV17..Pro..GPS, or a lesser model. First, don't let the GPS logo on top of the case fool you. Even if there is no GPS, Baofeng uses the same case for all models. Next, let's look at the Keypad. - The keys on the 17PG will have Alpha characters, used when manually entering channel names. - The zero (0) key has the image of a Cloud, used for selecting the NOAA weather option. - The non-GPS keypad shows menu options.
The Label Adding to the confusion, I have two of the UV17 PRO GPS purchased from AliExpress. The label shows "UV17 PRO" but they are in fact the "UV17 PRO GPS" version. The only true test are the Menu options. True Verification, the Menu options. - If your menu shows GNSS, you have the GPS option. - Your menu must also have the channel BANK option. - If not, you have a lesser model. Other Internal Differences. Software for the various models can be found at the Miklor Software Page. |
