The difference between Digital and Analog The major advantage of digital signal is the audio quality compared to the distance. Will digital transmit farther than analog? The short answer is 'no'. What it will do is transmit a much better quality audio signal over the covered range. As an analog signal becomes weaker, the S/N (signal to noise) ratio decreases to the the point where it is virtually unreadable, where a digitally processed signal eliminates the noise and delivers only the voice frequency range. As depicted below, both signals will drop off at the same point, but a digital signal will deliver superior audio quality right to the end.
