Hotspot Frequencies

Hotspot Operating Frequency
When hotspots are delivered, they are programmed with a test frequency. The most
common are 434.0 and 436.0 MHz.
Unfortunately, depending on where you are located, these frequencies may be
causing interference to local repeaters and satellite channels.
Interference
Avoid using the satellite frequencies (435.0 to 438.0 MHz) completely. Although
your hotspot is only putting out 5-20mW, your 1-5W handheld is what will cause
the interference.
Multiple Hotspots
If you currently have more than one hotspot, avoid having them on the same
frequency. If both are in use at the same time, this will create a loop between
them. This loop will lock up a talk group for the entire time both are active.
Also, if you are at a hamfest such as Hamcation or Dayton where hundreds of
hotspots will be in use in a relatively close proximity, the odds of looping are
greatly enhanced if on the same frequency.
Frequency Coordination
Check with your local frequency coordination group. The ARRL has a recommended
Band Plan, but your local coordination group has the specifics for your area.
