Failure to Connect with Radio
(Resolution procedure)
C7000 Example
|
|
Failure to Connect when trying to update your radio.
This procedure will assist with identifying and correcting the issue.
- The software worked fine until recently.
- You are using the same radio, cable, com port and software.
- The programming cable is straight through.
UART chip is in the radio (not the cable).
Diagnostic procedure
First, go to Device Manager and determine which driver is being accessed when the cable is
inserted with the radio turned on. In this example, the failing driver was
Walkie-Talkie-C7000.
Select this driver to open the Properties section for the failing driver and
select Update Driver.
As the software worked previously, it was apparent the driver has changed. The
old driver is still there, but needs to be reselected.
Select:
Browse my computer for
drivers.
Select:
Let me pick from a list of available drivers
And there it is, the original driver that worked previously.
I selected:
USB Printing Support
Windows10 loaded the driver.
Life is now good again.
What Happened?
It appears that Microsoft did an Auto Update and added what it thought were
updated drivers. In this particular instance, it directed the software to the
wrong driver.
Note: This is not directly related to the 'Counterfeit Prolific Chip' driver,
but the same procedure can be used.
Stay safe and healthy.
