So, What is a Wyze Cam
The Wyze Cam is a compact 1080p HD camera that works with your WiFi, Alexa and Google
assistant. After purchasing my new Wyze Cam, I also picked up the Wyze Pan Cam.
Here's my experience and observations.
What's in the Box
Included with the WyzeCam 1080p HD camera
- 110v to USB power unit
- 3' USB cable
- Adhesive mounting plate
- Metal mounting plate
- Start up instructions
General Description & Features
- 1080p full HD live streaming
- Two way audio capability
- Continuous list streaming
- 14 day recording backup capable
- Motion detection alerts
- Night vision up to 30' using 4 infrared LEDs
- 2.4gHz WiFi compatible
The
Pan Cam has the same features as above, but also has Motion
Tracking which can track motion for 360 degrees as shown in the videos below.
Basic Information
WyzeCam measures 2.0 x 2.0 x 2.2" and weighs 3.5 oz.
Pan Cam measures 2.3 x 2.3 x 5.0" and weighs 8.8 oz
Using the Wyze App, I can live stream directly to any iOS or Android device.
When either Motion or Sound is detected, it can send a notification to my
mobile device or smart phone. You can monitor the camera video and audio from
any location with an internet connection.
Night Vision
The camera has 4 IR LEDs that can be set to On, Off or Auto. As expected, when
the room is dark, these light up the room 20- 30 feet away, however don't try
these in front of a window as the reflection whites out the camera.
The V3, even without the infrared lights, has exceptional night vision. The
slightest amount of light outside brings darkness to a fully visible image.
Video Capture
With the addition of a 32GB micro SD card, the camera can store up to 2 weeks
of continuous video. When the memory card fills, the oldest captured images are replaced by the newest.
Here are a few videos captured from my back deck and front porch with the WyzeCam
and PanCam.

Capture Area
The capture area and sound sensitivity are fully adjustable. If you have the Pan
Cam, you can manually scan the area 360 degrees. When done scanning,
the camera returns to the home position.
Playback
Retrieving video is extremely easy. By selecting Playback you can
go back on the timeline to any video captured in the past 2 weeks.
Video Extraction
In the 'suspicious car' video above, I was able to create a separate video
that started when the car entered the camera's view and stop it when it
exited. I now have a video capture with
time stamp that could be texted or emailed to the local authorities.
Detection Area
If you have a street within view, what you don't need is the camera sending a
notification for every car that passes. The detection settings allow you to block
out any undesired capture areas. The example below shows how I block out traffic
and my neighbor's driveway.
Note: The optional 32GB memory card will continuously capture a 2 full weeks of
activity, without sending unwanted activity notifications.

Get Creative
I even have one mounted in my laundry room downstairs. No, I'm no afraid someone
is going to break in and steal my socks.
I have it mounted in the ceiling pointing down on the washer and dryer so we can
look at the live image and tell by the lights what the status is without running the stairs.
I know... I'm a techie geek at heart, but at the price of these cameras, why
not?
Accessories
There are several accessories available for easy mounting, such as Wall mounts
and AC power mounts. I personally use the wall mount for the camera in my
workshop. It comes with a short cord and makes a clean installation.
The Wyze App
The downloadable app allows every function necessary to control the
cameras, updates and functions. Here is a screen shot of the main menu page.
Setup was extremely easy. It took about 2 minutes. After loading the Wyze app,
you scan the camera's QR code and the setup instructions and the camera's Voice
will guide you through the process.

Firmware
Periodically, Wyze sends firmware updates, so you always have the latest version.
These updates are usually for feature additions. The app will alert you when new firmware updates
are available.
Conclusion
As I mentioned above, I have several of these and have never had an issue with
any of them. The WiFi connection is at the far end of my house, yet the Wyze
Cams show 4 out of 5 bars.
The obvious pros are the following:
- Fantastic quality
- Great clarity and resolution
- Easy to set up
- Small size
- Extremely cost effective
Cons
- I haven't found any
I give these a solid 5 stars, and their price point is only around $35.
