DBJ-2 Portable roll up antenna Why buy from imitators? This antenna was featured in the March 2007 QST and designed by Dr. Ed Fong WB6IQN. This is the same antenna that is in the ARRL Antenna Compendium Vol 8 titled “True Dual Band roll-up portable J-pole”. Buy it from the original inventor (Dr. Ed Fong WB6IQN formerly at UC Berkeley now at UC Santa Cruz-Silicon Valley) with 100% lifetime warranty and help out his graduate students at the same time. Just return it and it will be either repaired, a new one sent to you or a full refund (buyers choice, no questions asked). This is the industry standard for portable dual band antennas for 2 meters (144-148 MHz) and UHF (440-450 MHz) ham band. Also available in Commercial (152-157 MHz and 460-470 MHz). Adapted by the Red Cross, various CERT agencies, RACES and hundreds of ham clubs. Don’t be fooled by claims of dual band performance. Although traditional VHF J-pole antennas will resonate at UHF, they suffer a –6dB loss at UHF over a ¼ wavelength ground plane. We have purchased most of the so claimed "dual band antennas" on eBay and most are just single band VHF antennas resonating at UHF. This antenna offers true ½ wavelength performance at both VHF and UHF. SWR is less than 1.3 to 1 on both bands. A copy of the original paper on how this novel antenna works is available from me. When deployed, it will give about +6dB of gain over a rubber duck antenna. It comes complete ready to use with 3 ft of RG174A cable and a commercially full molded BNC connector. It comes complete with adapters for BNC, SMA and reverse SMA (Wouxun and Motorola) at no charge and one 6ft extension cable. The extension cables can be cascade. Additional extension cables are $5 each.
