What is the Difference?
The BTech UV-5X3 sold by
Baofeng Tech (the radio dealer in the USA) and
has many features not available on any Baofeng
model, dual band or tri-band. The cases are
similar, but the radios are not. |

UV-5X3: You can edit all parameters of a memory channel (TXP, WN, R-CTCS, etc.) from MR (channel) mode.

UV-5R: Can't edit any parameter of an existing memory channel in MR mode. Must erase memory channel and program it back with the desired changes in VFO (frequency) mode.
UV-5X3: Can add/remove memory from scanning using keypad.

UV-5R: Must use programming software to add/remove memory from scanning.
UV-5X3: Can decode DTMF tones. Allows display of ANI and PTT-ID. Allows remote "stun", "kill", "revive".

UV-5R: Can't decode DTMF tones.
UV-5X3: Can automatically SYNC top (A) and bottom (B) display lines to the same memory channel. Allows automatically showing channel name and frequency at the same time.

UV-5R: Cannot automatically SYNC display lines. Must be done manually.
UV-5X3: Can set frequency ranges to scan in VFO mode.

Note: Baofeng (the radio manufacturer in China) is now selling a tri-band radio under various model names (UV-5R3 is one example).
It is basically a UV-5R with the addition of the 220 MHz band. It has none of the extra features of the BTech UV-5X3. |
