Windows 10, New Driver Issues
CHIRP
and other programming software
8-15-2015 |
The Update:
If you upgraded your computer to the new
Windows 10 operating system or recently purchased a
generic programming cable and your software no longer
connects, this is something you need
to know.
The problem is not with your
software,
but it is the new driver/cable interface.
As part of the upgrade process, Windows 10
automatically updates your computer with all the latest
drivers, and this could disable your programming cable
if it uses a Prolific type chip.
False Positive: <<<
Unlike the prior driver updates, the Yellow Triangle warning in Device
Manager may no longer appear, giving you the false indication that all is well.
Some indications that your driver has been updated are:
- Your transmitter will turn on when the cable is plugged in.
<<<
- You will receive a code 10 error.
- Your cable will stop communicating with your software.
- You will receive the following notice "PL2303HXA PHASED OUT SINCE 2012, PLEASE CONTACT YOUR SUPPLIER."
You will need to reload or backdate your cable driver
to 3.2.0.0.
These cables are commonly used with Baofeng, Kenwood, Wouxun, Leixen, and many other transceivers.
The necessary 3.2.0.0 driver is available
